The Abortion Pill is a non-surgical method for ending early pregnancy. It involves taking one pill in a doctor’s office and a second set of pills at home 24-72 hours later. After taking the second set of pills, you will get a heavy period within 30 minutes to 4 hours later accompanied by moderate cramping.
The Aspiration Procedure is a non-surgical method ideal for ending early pregnancy. A speculum is inserted (like a pap smear) and a local anesthetic is applied. A thin, plastic tube about the size of a pencil is inserted through the natural opening of the cervix. Gentle pressure is applied with a handheld device for about two minutes. The pressure brings down the thick tissue lining of your uterus that forms before your period each month. Most women experience the procedure like a longer pap smear with a few minutes of strong period-like cramps at the end. The uterus is a muscle that “cramps” in response to the procedure. As soon as the pressure ends (about 2 minutes) the uterus starts to relax. The uterus completely relaxes and the cramps go away in about 10-15 minutes. You can then return to your normal activities.
