What makes Early Abortion different?
Early Abortion is abortion performed during the earliest stages of pregnancy, between 5 and 10 weeks from the first day of a woman’s last period. This is the ideal time to seek an abortion because of the extremely small quantity of pregnancy tissue that exists. Most women do not realize that if they are this early in their pregnancy, they do not need a surgical abortion (the method most often offered at traditional abortion clinics).
The Aspiration Procedure and the Abortion Pill are the best, safest, most natural and simple options for ending pregnancy during this time. They are both non-surgical and can be completed in a private doctor’s office without ever having to enter a clinic!
The Aspiration Procedure and the Abortion Pill are both excellent methods for ending early pregnancy. The advantages of the Aspiration Procedure are that it is very quick (5-6 minutes), does not require general anesthesia (you are not put to sleep) and does not require a follow-up visit with the doctor. The woman leaves the doctor’s office knowing the pregnancy is over and many patients even return to work after the procedure is completed. In comparison, the Abortion Pill generally results in more cramping and bleeding, though it allows the woman to complete the termination in the privacy and comfort of her own home.
Early Abortion will not affect your ability to get pregnant in the future.

Can I have an Early Abortion?
If a woman is between 5 and 10 weeks from the first day of her last period, she can have an early abortion. Early abortion techniques, such as the Abortion Pill or the Aspiration Procedure, are a woman’s best option if she is considering termination at this point in her pregnancy. Remember, there is no need for surgery during early pregnancy!
Not all Early Abortion providers are the same. The following options are highly recommended by the doctors who created this site.
- Earliest abortion techniques - Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) and the Abortion Pill (RU486) – are offered
- Private doctor’s office, scheduled appointment (NO clinic)
- Women Doctors
- Companions welcome during the procedure
- Early Options™ certified

Will
I be able to get pregnant later?
Absolutely! Non-surgical, Early Abortion techniques, such as the Abortion Pill and the Aspiration Procedure, will not affect your ability to get pregnant in the future.
Complications that can affect a woman’s ability to get pregnant later are generally the result of surgical abortion because of general anesthesia and the cutting and scraping of the uterus involved in a D&C procedure. This type of abortion is NOT necessary for pregnancy between 5 and 10 weeks.

What does Early Abortion feel like?
Early Abortion techniques, such as the Abortion Pill and the Aspiration Procedure, require the least amount of recovery time of all abortion methods. The side effects are generally cramping and bleeding, though these are usually very tolerable.
The Abortion Pill is a non-surgical method for ending early pregnancy. It involves taking one pill in a doctor’s office and a second set of pills at home 24-72 hours later. After taking the second set of pills, you will get a heavy period within 30 minutes to 4 hours later accompanied by moderate cramping.
The Aspiration Procedure is a non-surgical method ideal for ending early pregnancy. A speculum is inserted (like a pap smear) and a local anesthetic is applied. A thin, plastic tube about the size of a pencil is inserted through the natural opening of the cervix. Gentle pressure is applied with a handheld device for about two minutes. The pressure brings down the thick tissue lining of your uterus that forms before your period each month. Most women experience the procedure like a longer pap smear with a few minutes of strong period-like cramps at the end. The uterus is a muscle that “cramps” in response to the procedure. As soon as the pressure ends (about 2 minutes) the uterus starts to relax. The uterus completely relaxes and the cramps go away in about 10-15 minutes. You can then return to your normal activities.

Can someone stay with me during the procedure?
Absolutely. Early Abortion providers who offer methods such as the Aspiration Procedure and the Abortion Pill encourage women to bring a friend, family member, or partner with them during the procedure if it makes them feel more comfortable, though it is not necessary. Unlike surgical procedures performed in a clinic, both of these methods can be performed in a private doctor’s office and are safe, simple, and do not require the use of anesthesia so a woman would be safe to leave the office on her own if she chooses.

Yes! Early Abortion techniques, such as the Aspiration Procedure and the Abortion Pill, are the safest, most gentle and natural methods available for ending early pregnancy.
